iPhone Marketing - Pre-order your iPhone 4S

The Apple iPhone 4S will be launched within the next few weeks and most of us can hardly wait. We have heard and read so much about it and all we want to do is see it yet we are not being given any clues by Apple as to when that might be.

The Apple iPhone 4S has been built up to be the Jesus of phones and it has the whole country waiting in anticipation. But is it really going to be worth the wait? I don’t think so. The iPhone 4S is just a phone at the end of the day and we shouldn’t be making such a big fuss about it. How much better was the iPhone 3GS than the iPhone 4? Quite a bit! But the difference is proportional to that of many other phones released around the same time.

So consider this; what was better, the iPhone 4 or the Samsung Galaxy S? They were about the same in terms of spec and performance. The point is that nobody makes a huge fuss when Samsung releases a new phone but only whenever it’s a new iPhone! Let examine why this is the case!

Well actually about 6 months ago I don’t think there were a huge amount of people (except Apple iPhone fans) who cared. Apple iPhone fans noticed that Apple wasn’t giving any clues away about the next iPhone. Fans expected to learn what it would be called and when it was due to launch. This was the beginning. Bloggers started to speculate about the secrecy which in turn gave rise to many rumours. The iPhone 4S rumours spiralled up and attracted attention from a larger audience like a snowball, increasing in size and speed as it moves, until eventually it became an iPhone 4S frenzy.

No this did not happen by accident. Apple deliberately deprived expecting fans of the product name and launch date – info that any mobile manufacturer would normally provide. Apple did this to create an uncertainty about the iPhone 4S. Finally Apple deliberately dropped tiny clues of information to feed the frenzy which had grown from just ifans to encompass the general public. The huge public interest gave licence to large media bodies to discuss the iPhone rumours in news, which of course engaged yet an even larger scale of iPhone 4S awareness.

Stories about lager screens, curved profiles, lost iPhone 4S prototypes – we’ve heard the all. Many of the clues have been deliberately fuelled by apple while others are a pure result of fanatical expectations. Either way, this marketing strategy has been a roaring success so far and we are sure it will result in record breaking sales targets for Apple. Probably the cleverest thing about Apple’s marketing strategy was that it didn’t really cost anything as we the public did the promoting by talking about it so much.
